PROFILES FOR OUR MOST POPULAR LANGUAGES

Languages are as diverse as the people who speak them around the
world. We strive to offer you an opportunity to learn and benefit
from the fulfilling experience of communication internationally.

THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Berlitz Orlando caters to the needs of people who have recently arrived to the US and seek to learn English as a primary tool to help them integrate into the workforce. Our language center is also a  premier Berlitz Study Abroad location for international students and executives:

English - It is estimated that there are 300 million native speakers and 300 million more who use English as a second language and a further 100 million use it as a foreign language. It is the language of science, aviation, computing, diplomacy, and tourism. It is listed as the official or co-official language of over 45 countries and is spoken extensively in other countries where it has no official status.

Why is the English language so important to the  world?
Half of all business deals are conducted in English. Two thirds of all scientific papers are written in English. Over 70% of all post / mail is written and addressed in English. Most international tourism and aviation is conducted in English.

THE ROMANCE LANGUAGES

Romance languages are those that have their origins in the Latin language, whose cultural and social capital was the city of Rome. Among them are some of the most popular languages we teach right here at Berlitz Orlando:

Spanish - The Spanish that is spoken today is directly derived from the Latin language and its native-speakers number over 300 million people, with many more non-natives speaking it as a second language. Its influence over Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean, is directly related to Spain's colonization from the 15th through the 19th century.

Italian - Italian is a direct descendant of the Latin language and it is spoken by over 60 million people in the Italian peninsula and neighboring regions in Europe as well as the Mediterranean and the Adriatic Sea. Italian is known as a strong influence in the naming of fashion items and epicurean delicacies, and is the language used in the singing of Opera.

French - French, with approximately 98 million speakers living principally in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, and parts of Africa is one of the most widely spoken Romance languages. The French language is synonymous with love thanks to its cuisine and fine wines, symbolic of a perfect romantic evening -- or kiss.

Portuguese -Portuguese, with 137 million speakers in Portugal, Brazil, and parts of Africa and Asia is another influential Romance language. More people speak the language outside of Portugal than in the motherland.

PROFILES FOR OTHER POPULAR LANGUAGES

Chinese (Mandarin) - Mandarin Chinese is regarded as the variant used to conduct official in China, such as in government, social and cultural organizations.  It is spoken by more than 885 million people throughout the People's Republic of China. Cantonese Chinese is not as broad, but it is still spoken by over 55 million people living in the region that gives it its name.

Russian - Russian is one of the five official languages of the United Nations, and ranks with Chinese, English, Spanish, and Hindi as a major world language.
