Hispanic Heritage Month provides an opportunity to
focus national attention upon the contributions of
the Hispanic community to American society. From
Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, and include ”Día de
la Raza” (Columbus Day) and the independence
days of México and several Central American and
Caribbean countries.
Each year Hispanic Heritage Month is observed by
increasing numbers of governmental agencies and
private companies. There are a lot of activities
to help to spread the word about Hispanic culture
and individual and community achievements.

The Hispanic community has become a major
contributor to the overall well being of the
regional economy |

Between 1990 and 2000 the percentage of
Floridians of Hispanic origin increased by
4.62 percent from 12.17 to 16.79 percent of
the population. Within
Central Florida, the concentration increased
almost twice as fast (8.5 percent) from 8
percent in 1990 to 16.5 percent by 2000.

Since the 2000 census the percentage of the
Central Florida
population of Hispanic origins has increased
an additional 3.33 percent, reaching almost 20
percent of the total population.

The purchasing power of the Hispanic community
is strong and will remain strong as the
population ages and skill sets are acquired by
non-U.S. originating in-migration.
•
Job skills for those Hispanics migrating from
within the
United States remain strong and are expected
to remain so.
•
Overall the Hispanic community contributes
more than $11 billion, supporting an
additional 32 thousand regional jobs.
•
Hispanic contributions are expected to rise by
almost 20 percent to $13.4 billion by 2007.
The associated employment grow this expected
to reach 19.5 percent with an additional 6,000
regional jobs supported.

Berlitz Orlando will team up with Central Florida
organizations to help them celebrate diversity at
the work place in the Hispanic Heritage month, and
increase their awareness about the contributions
and accomplishments of the Hispanic community, by
organizing a Lunch and Learn Session, in which the
interested individuals will be receiving over an
extended lunch break, Spanish instruction focus on
learning greetings and some key phrases or
vocabulary about their industry.
AT NO COST for the organization, Berlitz Orlando
will send to their facilities, a highly qualified
Spanish Berlitz instructor to conduct a 1:00 hr
session for all interested individuals,
principally non-Spanish
speakers, to
train them in this new subject, help them
empathize with
their fellow
Spanish-speaking co-workers, and,
ultimately, increase, their awareness about
Hispanic culture and heritage.
Open dates begin on
September 15th, 2006
and go until
October 15th, 2006.
